Blinded by Acid at 3, But Topped Class 12 with 95.6%: Kafi’s Story Will Leave You Speechless

17 years-old Kafi , an Acid attack Survivor in Chandigarh has topped in her school

At just three years old, during the festival of Holi, little Kafi’s life took a painful turn. In a moment that should have been full of colors and joy, three neighbours in her village in Hisar, Haryana, threw acid on her—out of jealousy.

That one cruel act changed everything. Kafi lost her eyesight forever. Despite treatment at AIIMS Delhi, doctors told her family that her vision could not be saved. “The doctors saved my life, but not my eyesight,” Kafi recalls.

But what happened next is not a story of sadness—it’s a story of extraordinary strength, unshakeable will, and pure determination. She refused to give up on her dreams.

She joined the Institute for the Blind in Chandigarh in Class 6. She couldn’t read books like other kids, but she had something stronger—willpower. Using audiobooks and learning purely by listening, she kept studying, kept pushing, and kept believing.

And today, at 17, Kafi has done what many thought was impossible. She topped her school in the CBSE Class 12 board exams with a stunning score of 95.6%. Earlier, in Class 10, she had also scored 95.2%.

She now dreams of studying Political Science Honours at Delhi University and wants to become an IAS officer. “I want to become an IAS officer so my father can see me working in the same office where he works as a peon,” Kafi says with pride.

Her father, a peon on a contract at the Chandigarh Mini Secretariat, couldn’t hold back his joy. “I feel proud every day,” he said, eyes full of tears and pride. But even with all her achievements, one thing still hurts. The people who did this to her—those three neighbours—are still free.

“Those who did this to me are still roaming free,” she said quietly.Still, Kafi doesn’t focus on hate. She focuses on hope. Her journey is a shining example of how a strong spirit can defeat the darkest pain. From the ashes of cruelty, she has risen to become a light for millions.

She didn’t just survive. She turned pain into power. She didn’t just dream. She’s living proof that anything is possible.
